How to Make a Roblox Obby — Step by Step (2026)

Two ways to make an obby: use AI to generate one in 60 seconds, or build it manually in Roblox Studio. Both methods covered here.

Obbies are the perfect first Roblox game. The concept is simple — don't fall off — and players instantly understand what to do. In 2026 you have two real options: use AI to generate a full obby in under a minute, or build it yourself in Roblox Studio platform by platform.

This guide covers both. Start with whichever matches where you are.

Method 1: AI-Generated Obby (60 Seconds)

1

Go to PromptBlox and describe your obby

Head to promptblox.ai/create and type your obby concept. The more specific, the better the result.

  • "Neon space obby with floating asteroid platforms"
  • "Lava mountain obby with narrow rock bridges"
  • "Candy land obby with bouncy mushroom platforms"
2

Pick a concept image

The AI generates a concept image showing your obby's theme and color palette. This drives everything the AI builds. If you want a different look, generate a new concept for 5 credits.

3

Wait about 60 seconds

The AI generates a complete multi-stage obstacle course: platforms, gap jumps, kill bricks, lava zones, wall jumps, staircase climbs, checkpoint spawns, and a finish zone. All scripts included.

4

Download and playtest

Download the .rbxlx file and open it in Roblox Studio. Press F5 to play. Run through the whole thing yourself to check the difficulty and feel.

Tip:The Obby Maker page has 8 example prompts that produce great results. Start there if you need inspiration.

Method 2: Manual Build in Roblox Studio

If you want complete control over every platform, or you want to learn Studio for future projects, here's the manual path:

1

Open Studio with the Obby template

Open Roblox Studio, click "New", and pick the Obbytemplate. It gives you a starting set of platforms so you don't begin from scratch.

2

Add your first platforms

In the Home tab, click Part to insert a block. Use the Move and Scale tools to position it. Press F5 to playtest any time. A gap of about 10 studs is a medium-difficulty jump for most players.

3

Add kill bricks and lava

Select a Part, go to Properties, and check CanCollide = false if you want something visual only. To make a kill brick, add a Script inside the Part with:

script.Parent.Touched:Connect(function(hit) local char = hit.Parent local hum = char:FindFirstChild("Humanoid") if hum then hum.Health = 0 end end)
4

Add checkpoints with SpawnLocations

Insert SpawnLocation objects at intervals through your course. In Properties, set AllowTeamChangeOnTouch = true and assign a Team. Players respawn at the last SpawnLocation they touched.

Tip:Pro shortcut: use PromptBlox to generate the base structure, then open it in Studio and customize the individual platforms. You get a working 20+ obstacle course in 60 seconds instead of building each one by hand.

Obby Design Tips

Start with wide platforms, end with narrow

Let players learn the controls on the first few obstacles before making the gaps tight.

Add checkpoints every 5-8 obstacles

Players rage-quit obbies with long gaps between saves. Generous checkpoints keep them playing.

Theme every section

A consistent theme (forest zone → cave zone → sky zone) makes your obby feel like a journey, not just random platforms.

Playtest with someone who hasn't seen it

What feels obvious to you is confusing to fresh players. Watch someone else play and take notes on where they get stuck.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to make an obby?

With AI: under 60 seconds for a full multi-stage course. Manually in Studio: 2-10 hours depending on how many obstacles and how polished you want it.

How many stages should my obby have?

3-6 stages with 5-10 obstacles each is a good starting point. Players expect 10-20 minutes of play on a first run. You can specify the number of stages in your PromptBlox prompt.

Do I need scripting knowledge to make an obby?

With PromptBlox: no. Kill bricks, lava, bouncy platforms, and checkpoints all get scripts automatically. For a manual Studio build, you'll need a few basic scripts — but they're short and well-documented.
