The Story of PromptBlox: Generating Full Roblox Worlds with AI
Why we built a browser-native harness that takes a single prompt all the way to a playable Roblox game, and what we have learned on the way to 50,000 users.
Introduction
As we approach 50,000 users on PromptBlox, I wanted to reflect on our mission at PromptBlox and our journey to this milestone.
Every day we see drastic improvements in artificial intelligence. The tech industry has thereby seen a record rate of progression in the past few years since the widespread release of generative and agentic AI. PromptBlox was created because we noticed that AI tools for game development were falling far behind AI tools for other types of software development. At the same time, the player base for games was also reaching record highs; Roblox saw over 140 million daily active users in Q4 of 2025 and 132 million in Q1 2026; however, only 24,500 users are part of the Developer Program to create, monetize, and publish games.
The best explanation for this discrepancy in players and game creators is that Roblox games require using Roblox Studio to create, a platform that requires technical expertise to use. The technical requirements to create games were keeping the actual Roblox players, who best understand which games are fun and interesting, from building games.
As lifelong gamers and developers who kept up to date with the latest innovations in AI, we developed the thesis, based on trends and sentiment in the tech industry, that AI was extremely good at technical implementations but not at creative tasks.
The art of video game development requires human input for creativity, but actual implementation can be done entirely by AI agents.
Our goal in creating PromptBlox was to make game creation accessible for the masses through simple-to-use tools and natural language. We achieve this with PromptBlox: a browser-native tool that allows you to go from prompt to fully playable game without ever having to leave your web browser or download additional tools.
The PromptBlox Harness
Over the past year, we have seen the popularity of agentic AI slowly shift the focus of the AI race from who can create the best model to who can create the best agent harnesses. Every frontier lab has its own model that closely rivals the performance of its competitors, with some labs even releasing open-source, open-weight models that can compete with the performance of the top proprietary models. Creating the best harnesses is now the point of differentiation between competitors.
An agent harness, simply explained, is infrastructure that wraps around an AI model to provide tools to the model so it can be turned into an agent that can perform many tasks. Think of the model as a brain and the harness as the hands and body of the agent. Without one or the other, the AI system would be drastically limited in its capabilities.
Our finding is that specialized harnesses that provide the right tooling and directions for an AI system are more important than better models, especially when the task is extremely specialized and complex. The PromptBlox harness uses a suite of over 10 specialized models performing unique tasks with over 60 tools to plan, design, create, and texture entire Roblox worlds from a single user prompt.
We found that PromptBlox produces significantly more playable games than general-purpose coding agents running their best models on max effort. For example, structures and objects in PromptBlox-created games will have far better rendered textures, object placement, map decoration, and gameplay logic compared to the outputs from other coding agents.
Our Philosophy of Responsible AI
Since the public release of ChatGPT, saying our world has fundamentally changed would be a massive understatement. The rapid improvements in the capabilities of AI present an exciting opportunity for creative problem solvers and builders to bring their most ambitious ideas to fruition. However, this is met by the challenge of preventing these powerful tools from being used for the wrong purposes.
We believe that everyone should have access to AI, but not to the capabilities that are unsafe or unethical. Therefore, PromptBlox takes heavy measures to ensure that hateful and harmful prompts are rejected and never built into games. This includes games that depict hateful speech, symbols, and acts, as well as games that promote acts of self-harm and extreme violence. We are committed to promoting the responsible use of AI and protecting the community from the dangers that AI may bring.
Conclusion
PromptBlox is here to fundamentally change the way people create digital Roblox games. We want to encourage more people to bring their ideas to life in the digital world of Roblox. The best part of creating PromptBlox is seeing all the games being built by the community. We have also loved seeing the community support and feedback as we continue to build and improve PromptBlox. Thank you for taking the time to read this article, and thank you for being a part of the PromptBlox community as we start this journey.
